Expectant/New Parent Packages
We send parents who are expecting or have a newborn with CDH a Care Package which includes blankets, mittens and a hand print kit for their precious warrior. Also included are Printed Materials we have: Expectant Parents Booklet which has a broad outline of information about being a parent of a CDH Baby, NICU Equipment Booklet, and NICU Terminology Brochures, What to Ask the Health Professionals and a NICU Baby Book (tailored to having a baby in the NICU).
Parents Bringing Home their CDH Baby from the Hospital
We send a Booklet which outlines general care and concerns families may have and issues that may arise or to have an idea of – if they happen. Some babies go home and have no issues resulting from CDH. Many go home and have issues that in time are resolved – they usually lose their accessories (Oxygen, Tubes for Feeding, etc.) as they get older. We used the guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics for CDH Children.
Parents whose child chose wings over feet
We send a book on grief, Breath of Hope’s In the Event of an Angel and also a card.
Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day® Campaign
Each year we supply a sample letter and sample proclamations for anyone to send their Governors or Mayors to request March 31st to be Proclaimed Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day in their town, city or state. This has to be requested each year. We are also working on a Resolution in Congress to make March 31st a National Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day. Ribbons for Everyone!
We send anyone who requests – Turquoise Ribbons at no charge. Breath of Hope believes if you are wearing a ribbon and someone asks you what it is for – you are promoting Awareness of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia – which is our Mission and our Goal!
United Way Day of Caring - Giving a Hand to Create Hand Print Kits

In September 2008, through the United Way Thomas Jefferson Area in Charlottesville, Virginia we had several amazing volunteers from the University of Virginia who helped us assemble hand print kits. Five hundred (500) kits were assembled - 450 donated to the University of Virginia Children's Medical Center NICU for all families admitted. Breath of Hope has 50 of these kits for our Expectant Parent Packages. The local Walmart in Charlottesville, Virginia gave a grant which covered the cost of the materials needed to make all 500 kits. We are happy to share how we did this for anyone who would like to do a similar project for their local Hospitals and NICUs! Breath of Hope Scholarships
Breath of Hope, Inc. is offered five scholarships for a one time payment to institution of higher learning for tuition and books for scholarship winners. These scholarship awards were made possible though Breath of Hope’s Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Day® Campaign and a grant from GMAC Financial Services.

- Miracle Scholarship – for a survivor of the congenital diaphragmatic hernia birth defect.
- Hope Scholarship – for any family member of a child who had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia birth defect.
- Faith Scholarship – for anyone who is going into or furthering their education in Nursing
- Beyond Measure Scholarship – for anyone who will be furthering their education to become a Medical Doctor.
- Wisdom Scholarship – for those furthering their education in PhDs, or any graduate degree which would further the research, care and awareness of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
